Alpine's High Excursion Design Gathered Edge, or H.E.D.G.E.™ Surround, is engineered to allow the woofer cone to move farther while maintaining controlled operation.
The symmetrical rubber surround helps increase excursion and low-frequency extension, giving the BRV-S40C greater output and bass presence while maintaining clean, focused midrange reproduction.
Dedicated 2-Way Component Design
The BRV-S40C separates the midrange and high-frequency duties between two dedicated drivers. The 4-inch woofer handles the foundation of the music, while the 3/4-inch polyester cloth-dome tweeter reproduces high-frequency detail.
This dedicated component configuration helps create better separation between vocals, instruments, cymbals, and other musical details, resulting in a more open and precise soundstage.
Built for Active Tuning
Unlike conventional component systems that rely on passive crossover networks, the BRV-S40C is designed to be operated actively when paired with compatible Alpine processing equipment.
Alpine recommends pairing the BRV-S40C with its OPTIM8® DSP/Amplifier using OPTIM™ Sync technology. In an active configuration, each driver can receive its own amplifier channel and dedicated processing, allowing more precise control over crossover points, slopes, EQ, and time alignment.
OPTIM™ Sync Technology
Pairing the BRV-S40C with Alpine OPTIM8® and OPTIM™ Sync technology unlocks additional performance potential. Alpine's proprietary tuning applies driver-specific processing, including dynamic bass boost and pre-EQ, to extend low-frequency performance while keeping the speakers within their operating limits.
This allows the compact 4-inch woofer to produce a larger, fuller presentation than its physical size would suggest.
Rigid Woofer Construction
The woofer uses a polypropylene and mica cone designed to provide increased rigidity and a cleaner response. The specialized cone shape is engineered for increased excursion, while the durable gun-metal chemical coating gives the speaker a distinctive premium appearance.
A ferrite magnet motor provides stable performance and reliable power handling, while the rubber H.E.D.G.E.™ Surround supports the woofer's high-excursion design.
Detailed High Frequencies
The dedicated 3/4-inch polyester cloth-dome tweeter adds clarity and detail to the upper frequencies. By separating the tweeter from the woofer, the BRV-S40C allows high-frequency information to be reproduced independently, helping create a more defined and spacious front-stage presentation.
